Mission Statement
The mission of Johnson Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church is to deliver
the Gospel of Jesus Christ, through worship, preaching, proclamation, and
teaching, to all people. Spiritual transformation is at the center of our
ministry to the world. Consistent with The Great Commission of Jesus Christ,
the head of the Christian church, our principle task is to evangelize the
larger community. It enables us to bring the core values of the Christian
faith, salvation, healing, spiritual transformation, social involvement, and
self-empowerment to all people. It helps people to love God with all of their
hearts, minds, and souls. Because of it, they are able to love others freely.
It develops in persons a sense of trust, acceptance, reconciliation, and
forgiveness in relationships. We seek to enable persons, regardless of
extenuating circumstances, to claim a victorious lifestyle in Jesus Christ.
Although
the church and community are distinct, they are also interdependent and
interwoven into one process. This means for us, spiritual and social
transformation always go hand in hand. Salvation includes making a radical
change in one's body, soul, and mind. Spiritual centeredness is essential in
all aspects of life. All of our outreach programmatic activities are based on
viewing ministry as inclusive of both spiritual and social dimensions. This is
what Jesus meant when he said, "The spirit of the Lord is upon me because
he has anointed me to bring good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim
release to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to let the
oppressed go free, to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor" (St. Luke
4:18-19).
